Essential Functions

  • Troubleshoot and resolve Latency issues
  • Proactively support Load Time targets while resolving issues
  • Ensure optimization of Capacity Management
  • Ensure Uptime targets are met
  • Available to address system crisis management 24/7 
  • Minimize Mean Time Between Failures
  • Understand our Mean Time To Failure and manage accordingly
  • Ensure Data Redundancy and low MTTR

Experience/Education level

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 5+ years equivalent work experience
  • Thorough working knowledge of Linux OS required (CLI, server installation, patching, selinux, iptables, logs, etc…) as well as configurations to meet PCI compliance
  • Skilled in server hardware maintenance (installing memory, exchanging and installing hard drives, changing RAID configurations, installing/upgrading BIOS and backplane firmware, and troubleshooting issues)
  • Experience implementing successful network hardware and software firewall/loadbalancer configurations (Watchguard and Kemp experience preferred)
  • In depth knowledge of Apache and Nginx, including strengths/weaknesses of various configuration options and engines
  • Learned in database technologies such as MySQL, postgres, and ndbclusters, including knowing how to manage various replication scenarios, optimize performance of queries, tweak variables, isolate and secure accounts, and know general best practices
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, including XenServer and Amazon Web Services, and setting up new servers,  monitoring performance, scaling, and capacity management
  • Familiar with Postfix and how to best configure this email server for security, performance, and reliability; be comfortable configuring SPF records, DKIM, rDNS, feedback loops, and other sender reputation techniques
  • Be able to explain geographic redundancy and know what it takes to run, and design and implement, systems for disaster recovery and performance
  • Must be very comfortable with bash scripting for building small utilities, upgrading software, etc… PHP, Ruby, Perl, Python exposure desired
  • Must be well versed in the construction of and use of Ansible
